November

I believe right at this moment there's some kind of horse race happening. Being self employed you can safely assume that I have completely forgotten about running any kind of office betting - or have already proclaimed myself the outright winner.

Anyway, here's some neat stuff to look at when the excitment is over.

Parallax Scrolling

Web design trend - Parallax Scrolling

The latest trend soon to be run into the ground online is 'parallax scrolling'. It's something popularised in animation and early video games where objects in the foreground and background move at a different rate to give the illusion of depth.

This fashion website is my favourite example, but there are many others. It typically can require the user to have a modern browser but the results (when done right) can be stunning.

Any requests for us to do something similar will be happily accepted!

Ampersand

I've never liked ampersands until now...

For some reason the ampersand (the & symbol) has always irritated me. But present it as a wood carved ornate piece of artwork and I'm back on board.

This looks magnificent and Christmas is coming, but even then I think this might be a stretch...

If you also have blue eyes, we're related

But the blood line might go back a little. Turns out everyone with blue eyes can be traced to a common ancestor from a up to 10,000 years ago.

Data Visualisation

Video: How Earth got to 7 Billion

Very interesting, short and pretty to look at visualisation of how the Earth's population grew to 7 billion so quickly. The most worrying part though was that it quotes the UN saying it will level out at 10 billion but not explaining why.

Why?!
